Originally from Penang, Zi-Ling is currently a Full-time Lecturer in Music at UCSI University. She earned her Doctoral and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance from West Virginia University and Bowling Green State University in the USA. Prior to that, she also obtained a Bachelor’s degree in law from University of London. During her postgraduate studies, she also undertook various positions including Adjunct Lecturer as Collaborative Pianist for the Strings area and Graduate Assistant in Choral Accompanying. In addition to collaborative performances with vocalists and instrumentalists, she also taught piano in community school programs and frequently performed as church pianist in West Virginia.
Her research interest primarily focuses on French Piano Music, with her final DMA dissertation, "Evocations of Nature in Selected Piano Works by Debussy," being awarded the Mary T. Ferer Award for excellence in DMA research. Future performances and research will be centered around the exploration of the synthesis between music and different forms of arts in relevance to the freedom of expression and unique qualities of the natural surroundings in present Malaysia.
