Hailing from Kajang, Chiew Zhi Hong's musical journey began when he was enrolled into Yamaha's Junior Music Course (JMC) at age 4, under Mr Gary Wong. He was the youngest in his class when he continued with the Junior Special Advanced Course (JSAC) and finishing at age 14 with the Special Advanced Course (SAC) and a Yamaha Grade 5 teaching certification under the tutelage of Mr Lim Hock Seng.


At age 8, Zhi Hong started having lessons with Maestro Ng Chong Lim alongside his Yamaha courses. After finishing his SPM, he started studying overseas at the Freiburg University of Music in 2014, graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy in 2018 under the tutelage of Professor Pi-hsien Chen and Professor Hardy Rittner. He continued under Professor Rittner before graduating his Masters with high honours in early 2020. He then studied at the Trossingen University of Music under the tutelage of Professor Volker Stenzl, and concluded his Soloist Diploma (Konzertexamen) in 2022, with graduation recitals that came with raving remarks.


Among his achievements include a Trinity LTCL High Scorer Award in Solo Piano in 2011 along with an invitation to perform at the awards ceremony, performances in the 1st Asia Grand Piano Concert, and at University Malaya as an invited special guest. He has won prizes in the inaugural Steinway Malaysia Youth Piano Competition (3rd), Silver and Bronze Prizes in the Piano Concerto category at the 4th (Silver) and 5th (Bronze) ASEAN Chopin Piano Competitions.
